Cleckheaton Rotaract's 33rd Annual Charter
The Cleckheaton Rotaract held a successful 33rd Annual Charter. Despite the bad snow, there was a positive show of support from friends and family on Friday 3rd December 2010 with only one person unable to make it.
Everyone was dressed to impress, men in their suits and women in their posh frocks. To say it was the first time three of us had ever held an event like this, it went pretty smoothly. We started with a delicious four course meal, which was followed by selling raffle tickets. Our MC Chris helped to make the speeches go smoothly, and although he missed the grace, he did a fantastic job. The next task was the partaking in wine. Unfortunately, a couple of tables didn’t understand what the partaking of wine was; one table wrote a comment about Bird is the Word for Christmas Number 1 while the other table wrote the lyrics to Baby Got Back. The raffle was drawn with many winning prizes, before the Casino officially opened.
Everyone seemed to have a little flutter on one or the other of the Casino tables. There was the Black Jack at one side and the Roulette Wheel at the other. Throughout the night, both tables were packed. We did notice that Cleckheaton Rotarian Joanne Catlow seem to really get into the Roulette Wheel!! She even won 2nd prize with the amount of chips she had at the end of the night, winning an amazing wine hamper.
There was lots of dancing throughout the evening with many joining in with the classic party tunes including the Time Warp, Macarena and even Saturday Night!
As it hit midnight, everyone started to leave. The Casino had finished, last orders had been called, and the snow was still falling. The last few drunken skunks left in the back of taxis ending what was a very successful night.
Take Heart was our chosen charity for this year’s Charter Night. Take Heart was founded in 1989 and since then has raised nearly two million pounds to fund major projects locally, helping to provide extra care and comfort to patients and their families whilst in hospital. It is an excellent local Charity and the members of Cleckheaton Rotaract are passionate about helping so any support you can give is greatly appreciated.
We are pleased to announce that, after costs, we raised a grand total of £560! I’m sure that all at Take Heart will be delighted with this.
